Rick Pyles?
Posted by: cissp (IP Logged)
Date: January 11, 2009 11:19AM I was going through an archive of my web site emails, and saw one from Steve Pyles, who said one of his brothers was Rick Pyles, from your Class of '73. Do any of you remember him? I'm sorry to say that according to Steve, Rick has already passed away, but he did not say when.
Do any of you recall if these folks were related to the Dave Pyles Pontiac that used to be on St. Barnabas Road? Keep the memories alive, Chuck Fraley www.marlowheights60sand70s.com Bringing you fun memories of Marlow Heights and vicinity of the 60s and 70s! Re: Rick Pyles?

Date: January 12, 2009 03:05AM Did not know Steve. I believe Rick was the nephew of Dave Pyles and the son of the Pyles that owned the lumber company on Allentown Rd. I too heard he passed away, through this forum. After he graduated, he went on to own/manage a Pontiac dealership on Acton Lane in Waldorf. I bought a car from him when he was there. A genuine nice guy. He went on to own/manage a car dealership on the Eastern Shore. That was the last I heard from him or his wife Brenda...

Date: January 12, 2009 07:13AM It was very sad when Rick Pyles took his life. It was probably sometime in the 80's. Since then Brenda has remarried I believe, moved to North Carolina with their three kids. I always thought Dave Pyles was his father.
I am sure we will get the correct info once others start reading the post. Especially those who grew up with him. Sandy Re: Rick Pyles?

Date: January 13, 2009 03:18PM I always thought that his dad was Norris Pyles. Didn't Rick grow up right there off of Temple Hills Rd., near Henderson Rd.?

Date: January 13, 2009 04:58PM Okay you all got me! It was very sad as Sandy already said. I lived right behind Ricky Pyles house on T.H. Road. His dad was Norris Pyles and he built houses all over southern MD. back in the 60's. I remeber when they built their house actually around 1960 or 61 I think. Their house was the very long ranch style home which still sits up on a hill overlooking Henson Valley near the end of Henderson Road. Steve Fagan's house sat right in front of Ricky's with the back to T.H. Rd. So here is what I know which is way too much to post on here and get to bed at a decent hour. I'll try to cut it short!! Have I ever before!! Okay. Dave Pyles was Ricky's uncle and he owned Dave Pyles Pontiac on St Barnabas which turned into Lincoln Mercury and then it moved to VA years later. Dave Pyles was from the Class of 66 at Crossland and my older sis graduated with him and knew him. He lived on T.H. road too but up just past where the beltway crosses under. Anyhow Ricky's Dad Norris got into selling cars and it was called NOrris Ford I think in Lexington Park. I knew Ricky fairly well since we had classes together from 1st grade all the way through 12th and I also knew Brenda pretty well too. since she sat next to me I think in 5th or 6th grade and Ricky sat near me as well. They started dating in 6th grade I think. I recall Brenda Had a pet squirrel and brought it to school once. Anyhow so I was never real close with Ricky but then again I was. I recall we used his front lawn sometimes to sleigh ride and had a blast. I also recall being in his house a time or two with Steve Fagan and Ricky and I remember his Mom was real nice too. Way too much info but the thoughts are flowing so stick with me. After H.S. Ricky and Brenda got married and moved into Brinkley house apts. and he used to host informal poker games which I somehow was included in. along with the Maxster Bob. Just kidding Bob Maxey and Al Pilkins from Crossland 72 and Chuck Pence from 72 and others I do not recall. Perhaps Dovid Goldfarb was also there. Anyhow Ricky and Brenda moved after a couple of years down off Piscataway road below Hyde Field into a large split level. Our card games continued and grew larger since it was a bigger house. I recall when they had kids the games slowed but anyhow. I'll never forget the day Bob Maxey called me and told me Rick had taken his life. Like was already shared he was a really nice guy. His younger brother is too. He graduated after us I think in 74 or 75 along with Bob Maxey's younger brother. I think I've mentioned before on other posts that I was treated to several Redskins games back in those days by Bob Maxey and they (Pyles) chartered a DC Transit Bus to carpool to games from Dave's Pontiac dealership. Some of the Bevards and Pyles and others would go. I just recall feeling like royalty going to the game with free Schlitz beer in coolers and only about 10 to 20 people on the bus. I believe Brenda moved to Myrtle Beach after remarrying. But do not recall. I think she came to one of our early reunions actually. like #10 or 15. P.S. he lived right across the street from where Tom Hodge lived so maybe he'll fill in more. I do know more but I won't ramble on any more. Re: Rick Pyles?

Date: January 13, 2009 05:09PM P.S.S. The Lumber Company was his grandfathers I think. But not sure, I think Bob Maxey would know. How about it Bob? Are you a lurker?? Re: Rick Pyles?

Thanks for updating everyone, I am sure others will share their great stories of Ricky and growing up in TH and CS. Please feel free to ramble anytime, I find your memory incredible. KathyMac has that same ability to remember stuff that comes back to me once she says it, but I think where the hell did that come from. I guess we retain more long term memory for sure than short!! Hmmmm I remember making and spaghetti and garlic bread at 9 am in Mrs. McGuinnes home ec class, but don't ask me what I had for dinner last night!! Sandy Re: Rick Pyles?

Date: January 22, 2009 09:20AM Ricky was an early friend from 1st grade through 12th, along with Mike Price and a few others from the Temple Hills gang who got together at the 30th reunion. His father carried a Christmas tree into Miss Broodie's class back in first grade. Good folks...
There are three Pyles boys: Ricky, Allan (a couple years younger) and Stevey, younger still. Re: Rick Pyles?

Wow this is weird, for some reason I drove through the old neighborhood the other day and saw the old places we grew up. Ricky was a great guy and was very deep in love with Brenda. He and I actually got into a fight once because he thought I was trying to steal her away from him. But after kicking his butt we remained great friends. It hurt when I found out he took his own life. His dad Norris, was Dave Pyles uncle and as Mike said he built homes in several places, Ricky, Steve Fagan and I used to work for him in the summer, doing odd jobs and such. His dad was also love to hunt and trap animals, Mike do you remember when Ricky's dad brought some of the animals to Temple Hills Elem School? Here is one I bet you dont remember, When we were leaving Temple Hills Elem heading to Taney, and Mr Greenhourer (sp) was transferring to a different schooland we had the party at Ricky's house and a bunch of us fell into the little pool they had with him? I knew Brenda moved to NC, did not know she remarried though. Would be nice to hear from her and to find out how she is doing. Steve Fagan lives in Suitland Maryland and I get Chirstmas cards from him and his wife Holly. When we were in Taney, Steve Pyles was around 8-10 years old. Alan was a few years older and Rickey was the oldest. We did use the hill in front of his house to sleigh ride, he was at the top of the hill and then Fagan's house was close to the bottom. The hosue that Ricky and Brenda bought was in Mary Catherine Estate in down town Clinton. I never got the poker game in, but did watch a few football games there. Its nice to get the memories going, there is a saying I believe in a lot " Scars heal, glory fades, memories live forever" Mike the email address is Thomas.E.Hodge@us.army.mil cell phone is 301-848-9198 Tom Skinner it is good to see your name up there.. Tom, I happened upon a string posted from Crossland 73 about Rick. I wanted to “reply all” but it would not permit me to do so. Everyone’s memory is very good! Thank you for keeping Rick’s memory alive. Thank You, Alan Pyles Re: Rick Pyles?
