Steak in a Sack, August 22, 2009

Date: August 02, 2009 06:28AM Dear Friends of Marlow Heights 60s and 70s:
The next get together at Steak in a Sack will be August 22, from 2-5 p.m. Come on out and see old friends, classmates, maybe even former teachers. As always, anyone still around after the Steak in a Sack closes can come along for a, “tour”, of the area—old neighborhoods, schools, Iverson Mall, whatever the group chooses to do. I am expecting a large turnout. I plan to have Marlow Heights 60s and 70s t-shirts made and available for sale at the August 22 Steak in a Sack get together. They should look similar to the one I already have, but will be in white. Please let me know what sizes you would need. Anything between S-XL will be one price, and anything XXL and above will be $1.50 more per shirt. Right now I don’t have a final price but if I had to guess I would say $15 per shirt, S-XL, and $16.50 for XXL and above. If anyone wants a t-shirt but can’t make it to Steak in a Sack on August 22, try to get with someone you know that is going there, and buy one for you. If that doesn’t work, I am willing to meet anyone within approximately 10 miles of either where I live in Silver Spring, or where I work in Columbia (off of exit 15 from Rt. 29). As it is for my web site, I don’t plan to make any money off of this, but sell at cost. I plan to have t-shirts at the Marlow Heights 60s and 70s, “Back to School”, dance, too, mentioned below. Please bring cash for the t-shirts. Marlow Heights 60s and 70s, “Back to School”, dance is tentatively scheduled for Saturday evening, October 3, at the American Legion in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. At this time I don’t have the exact address, nor the start time. What I can tell you is that the cost will be $20 per person, which will cover the hall rental and DJ. Plans are to have cooks at the hall, “recreate”, Mighty Mo’s, served along with fries, onion rings, and hot dogs. Besides soft drinks, there will be a pay as you go bar. Since yours truly worked at Jr. Hot Shoppes, where the Royal Burger was different in name only to the Mighty Mo, I will be taking a keen interest in preparation of these Hot Shoppes classics. No shortcuts! There is also the possibility that we will recreate the Orange Freeze and Hot Fudge Ice Cream Cake, two other Hot Shoppes favorites. If you want to volunteer to help out with this, let me know. Right now Adele (Habib) Traylor and Lisa (Betterelli) Kriner are heading this effort. We are planning to have as many people as possible pay for their tickets in advance, so that the American Legion hall has some money up front. We will make arrangements for people to mail their checks in directly to the American Legion in Chesapeake Beach, with a possibility that electronic payments could be sent to my PayPal account. Please respond back if you plan to attend, and number in your party. Temples Hill Elementary School Reunion A couple of members of the Crossland Class of ‘73 are trying to get together a Temple Hills Elementary Reunion, and are actively searching for a number of their classmates. If anyone knows the whereabouts of any of the following people, please respond back to me. They are also trying to find one of their teachers Mr. William H. Greenhalgh. Here are the folks they need to find: Tom Evans; Craig Mendell; Jim Woolf; Steve Koznowsky; Bill Briesmaster; Alan Olsavsky; Kurt Packard; Sue Balacek; Sue Covello; Debbie Devine; Sherri Wood; Wendy Kipple; Patti Caulfield; Sandy Campbell; Ann Brill; Jeff Silva; Brenda Langley; Tom Shuck; Lou Anne Peters; Jimmy Goins; Joey Carol; Tom Skinner; Jon Anderson; Maureen Dingivan; Dale Birkle; Vickie Fogelman; Keep the memories alive, Chuck Fraley www.marlowheights60sand70s.com Bringing you fun memories of Marlow Heights and vicinity of the 60s and 70s! Date: September 16, 2009 01:02AM Hi Chuck, I dont know if you are familiar with the August Pool Party that the class of 68 hosted thru the years at Temple Hills Swim club (for classes 68-73). Anyway this year it wasnt planned, and according to my sister Ann Stafford (of their reunion gang), the response wasnt as good as they needed and so planned to put their funds towards this Back to School dance in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. I missed having the pool party, but the dance sounds interesting. If we could talk it up and get the info to everyone, I think the class of 73 could make an appearance there, there are some of us who live down that way, or are close enough to get there! What do you think?
Just wanted to mention, our class of 73 is the best, every other class is jealous of our website, and our comeraderie (sp). How bout that, guys, keep up the good work! Katie Stafford Van Swaringen Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
