New Year's Eve parties during High School

I've been sitting here thinking about how we celebrated New Year's Eve when we were at Crossland. I don't remember attending any Cavalier parties. I have a hint of a recollection of spending a New Year's Eve wandering through the remains of a snowstorm with a bottle of wine in one hand and my best friend Valerie trying to keep me from falling over. But I think we were (looking at the floor shamefully) only 14 at the time. That would have put us in 9th grade. Val, can that be right?? How about it Cavaliers? Any fond memories of New Year's Eve's past? Love to hear the stories. Oh, one more memory. I recall a New Year's Day, very early in the morning, when I met Sandy Shwedick and Tom Coffin at the 7-11 on Allentown Rd. My boyfriend at the time, Robbie Sellner (Sally's brother) and I had stopped by to get some much needed coffee and Sandy & Tom shared the sad news that Tom's mother had died during the night. At least that's how I recall it. We were seniors I think. Sandy...please clarify.

Hey! I had my vices...I wasn't always on the straight & narrow my friend!! But I paid a heavy price for that little transgression. The next morning I woke up and my knees and my hands and the whites of my eyes had turned a funny shade of yellow. Worrying that I might have something serious, my parents asked our neighbor across the street (a 2nd year dental student as I recall) to come over and see if he could diagnose the problem (what the hell were they thinking?? a DENTAL student??). He looked me over and asked laughingly, "Kathy, you weren't by any chance out drinking last night, were you?" I thought I was going to die. I just chuckled and claimed innocence. In later years I realized that I had become a bit jaundiced due to a slightly faulty liver. I'll never forget that New Year's Day!

Kath,
Your memory blows me away. Yes, you are correct, Tom's mother passed away that Mew Year's eve. 36 years ago. I would never have remembered running into you at 7-11, but that does ring a bell. Tom was probably buying cigarettes. I also remember you having that jaundice, but wasn't that in Taney!!

Happy New Year everyone!!
Sandy

Yes Shwed, I think we were in 9th grade. I know that sounds so young to be walking around with a wine bottle in the snow, but believe it or not.....it was sort of given to us by Mrs. L after she & Mrs.Sorte returned to Val's house from a neighborhood party. I think there is a picture someplace of Mrs. Sorte asleep on the Lamont's kitchen floor. Yikes!!!
